How do I reset or reboot Virgin Media Hub

How to reboot the Hub?

To reboot the Virgin Media Hub, follow these steps:

  1. Switch off the Hub at the wall socket, wait 10 seconds, turn it back on

  2. Wait 5 - 10 minutes for the Hub to reboot

  3. It’ll be ready when the white power light at the front of the is solidly lit


How to reset the Hub?

To factory reset the Virgin Media Hub, follow these steps:

  1. Switch on the Hub at wall socket and at the back of the Hub

  2. On the back or base of the hub, use a pen to press the reset button for 10 seconds

  3. Give the Hub a few minutes to reboot

  4. It’ll be ready when the white power light at the front of the is solidly lit

To reconnect your devices, go to our connect your devices page.

Important: If you’ve made any changes like updating your WiFi password, you’ll need to do this again once the Hub has reset to factory settings.

What’s Virgin Media modem mode?

Modem mode turns the Hub into a cable modem, letting you connect your own WiFi kit to the Virgin Media Hub.

What’s Virgin Media router mode?

A Hub is a modem and a router in one. Routers work with wired and wireless networks to connect with multiple devices.

How to turn on modem mode on the Virgin Media Hub 3, 4 or 5* and Super Hub 1, 2 or 2AC

Check you’re connected to the Hub before following these steps to enable modem mode.

  1. Enter 192.168.0.1 into the address bar of your browser. This is the Virgin Media Hub IP address.

  2. Select Next and enter the Hub settings password which is on the base of the Hub. This isn’t your WiFi password.

  3. Select Super Hub

  4. Select Modem Mode

  5. Select Enable Modem Mode

  6. Select Apply Changes

*Not currently available for Hub 5x

The limitations of modem mode for Virgin Media Hub 3, 4 or 5

It is important to note that when turn on modem mode on a Hub 3, 4 or 5* you will temporarily disable some of the usual functions of the Hub:

  • SamKnows monitoring and Sam Knows two-step speed test

  • Plume Pod compatibility

  • Intelligent WiFi capabilities

  • Connect App features (Homescan, Hub Management, WiFi Diagnostics)

The 21CV service VolP telephony will still work, and all other features will be restored once modem mode is disabled.

Important: Before switching to modem mode, the IP address used to access the Hub was 192.168.0.1. After switching, the new Virgin Media modem mode IP address will be 192.168.100.1.

How to put the Virgin Media Hub 3, 4 or 5, Super Hub 1, 2 or 2AC back into router mode

Check you’re connected to the Hub before following these steps.

  1. Enter 192.168.100.1 into the address bar of your browser. This is the Virgin Media modem mode IP address.

  2. Select Next and enter the Hub settings password which is on the base of the Hub. This is different from your WiFi password.

  3. Select Hub Settings

  4. Select Modem Mode

  5. Select Enable Router Mode or Disable Modem Mode

  6. Select Apply Changes. The Hub will reboot and return to router mode.

You can also activate router mode by resetting the Hub to factory settings.
