Differences between a Wi-Fi booster, Wi-Fi extender and Wi-Fi repeater
Wi-Fi extenders and repeaters are both types of Wi-Fi booster. Boosters are basically any kind of device that extends the range of your wireless router or Hub. Although they are both classed as Wi-Fi signal boosters, Wi-Fi-extenders and Wi-Fi repeaters work a little differently to each other.
Wi-Fi extenders are devices that increase the range of the Hub’s wireless signal, giving you a stronger and more stable connection over more of your home. Typically, extenders are linked through a wired port using an Ethernet cable. They can also use your home’s electrical wiring to transmit the signal, like our Powerline Boosters. Because they simply extend the range of the Hub’s signal, you won’t need to set up a new network. Simply connect your devices to the Hub and the Wi-Fi extender will handle the rest.
Wireless repeaters can also help extend the range of your router’s wireless signal into the dead zones around your home. Like extenders, repeaters connect to your home Wi-Fi network and rebroadcasts the wireless signal to a larger area in your home. The difference is, when you use a repeater, you’re basically setting up a new network that simply borrows the broadband connection from the main Hub. That means you’ll need to connect to the repeater, rather than the Hub, when in your home’s dead zones to get the benefits.
Should I use Wi-Fi boosters or Wi-Fi pods?
