There was also Ben Stiller’s banana bread, which he baked in the shape of a Golden Globe.

Chloe Zhao picked up the coveted Best Director award for Nomadland, becoming the first Asian woman to do so, and only the second woman ever to win the award. The Crown, Nomadland and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm were among the big winners of the night.

Chadwick Boseman won his first Golden Globe posthumously for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. His wife Taylor Simone Ledward accepted the award on his behalf, saying: “He would say something beautiful, something inspiring, something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells you you can”.

In the mockumentary, Sacha Baron Cohen reprises his role as Borat Sagdiyev, a Kazakhstani news reporter who returns to the US, commenting on the culture, political elections and COVID-19. Instead of his lime green mankini, Borat is back with a mask strategically placed over his *ahem*. Rudy Giuliani and Mike Pence appear as themselves.

The Mauritanian

Defense attorney Nancy Hollander (Jodie Foster) and her associate Teri Duncan (Shailene Woodley) take his controversial case, and discover an unsuspected ally in military prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Couch (Benedict Cumberbatch).

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

The drama has been adapted from August Wilson’s play of the same name, which revolves around real-life “Mother of the Blues,” Gertrude “Ma” Rainey (Viola Davis). During a recording session in 1920s Chicago, her and her band record a song called “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Over the course of the day, Rainey clashes with her white manager and producer over control of her music. Meanwhile, her trumpet player, the fictional Levee Green (Chadwick Boseman), chases aspirations of his own beyond the band.

The ensemble cast is made up of top-tier talent, including: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Daniel Flaherty, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance and Jeremy Strong.

Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, Josh O’ Connor as Prince Charles and Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher were all, um, crowned with awards for their brilliant portrayals.

As he’s applying for training college, his father (Steve Toussaint, Judge Dredd) is assaulted by two racist cops in this poignant tale.
