With top-flight action scheduled to return in June, take a look at what to expect when it all kicks off again
By Virgin TV Edit
With the recent announcement that the Premier League will be returning in June, excitement is at fever pitch.
How long before Liverpool seal their first league title for 30 years? Who will qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League? And how will the relegation battle pan out? There’s still lots to decide for the clubs involved.
It’s worth bearing in mind that everything is currently subject to government approval, but there’s plenty to get your head around before the action resumes. From when matches will be played to where you can watch them on Virgin TV, here’s everything you need to know…
It’s set to restart on Wednesday 17 June
The Premier League is due to kick off again on Wednesday 17 June with two fixtures – Aston Villa versus Sheffield United and Manchester City’s clash with Arsenal. These fixtures were originally postponed due to Villa and City’s participation in the Carabao Cup Final.
The first full round of fixtures will follow soon after
Should those two matches be played without a hitch, the first full weekend of Premier League games is expected to take place from 19 to 21 June.
All matches will take place behind closed doors
Due to safety concerns, fans will not be present inside stadiums when the Premier League restarts. It’s also understood that around six matches could be played at neutral venues on the advice of the police, though this is yet to be confirmed.
All matches will be televised
With 92 games left to play this season, it’s been confirmed that every single match will be televised live. That’s quite the feast of football – and you can watch it all on Virgin TV. Sky Sports will be showing 64 of those games (with 25 made available free to air), while the BBC will be showing four live matches – the first time the broadcaster has ever aired live Premier League football. BT Sport and Prime Video will also be airing live matches.
Kick-off times have been agreed
Should the season resume without any issues, matches will kick off at the following times each week...
Friday: 8pm
Saturday: 12.30pm, 3pm, 5.30pm, 8pm
Sunday: 12pm, 2pm, 4.30pm, 7pm
