What to watch this Christmas!

What to watch this Christmas!

Here are the best programmes to watch on TV this Christmas. You’ll probably need until at least the middle of January 2021 to watch them all…

By Laura Rutkowski, Staff Writer

‘Tis the season… for TV! Great telly is here to spread festive cheer as we finish off the year! We won’t beat around the bush, 2020 has been challenging (to say the least), and we know this Christmas might be a lot different to the ones you’re used to.

Wherever you are for the holidays, whoever you’re spending them with and however you choose to celebrate, one thing is certain in this uncertain climate: Christmas TV. Every channel saves its very best fare for the end of December, and they’re pulling out all the stops to keep you entertained and laughing into the New Year.

We made a list, we checked it twice, to pull together the best TV treats, from stunning dramas and documentaries, to brilliant comedy and kids’ shows. Ho-ho-hope you enjoy!

EastEnders, Holby City, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks

The soaps never disappoint at Christmas – whether it’s a massive family bust-up, a tragedy or an educational plot point, there will be action and drama planned for the festivities. One of the reasons we love ‘em is they make our own family gatherings look like a walk in the park in comparison!

Coronation Street, the world’s longest-running soap, which has aired more than 10,000 episodes, celebrates a very special birthday this year, the big 6-0. Writer Tony Warren’s creation debuted on ITV on December 9, 1960, and audiences have been hooked ever since (on average, seven million people in the UK tune in per episode). We have no doubt an explosive storyline is in the works to kick off this momentous occasion.
