BAFTA category spotlight: Day 5

BAFTA category spotlight: Day 5

We’re previewing the nominees for Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment with Rylan Clark-Neal, Emily Atack and Caitlin Moran!

By Virgin TV Edit

Hosted by Richard Ayoade, the 2020 Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards will be held this Friday (31 July) to recognise the best on the box across 26 categories. Whether they’ve been behind the scenes or in front of the camera, top talent has been entertaining the nation for the past 12 months – and now’s the time to celebrate that!

Since there were so many must-see moments in the past year, choosing just one seemed impossible, but we left it in your capable hands! That’s right, Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment is the only award voted for by the public, because we know that you know your telly.

There’s a brilliant mix this year, with scenes that range from serious to shocking, and from sexy to swoon-worthy. Get ready for the big reveal at the awards ceremony as the winner is crowned and the must-see moment clip is inevitably watched over and over and over again.

We caught up with Rylan, Emily and Caitlin on video chat to discuss all the nominees. Watch our video below…

Here’s what our panel said about the nominees…

Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment

Coronation Street: The death of Sinead Osbourne

Caitlin Moran: Soaps do many things, but one of their great strengths is starting a conversation about issues that we might otherwise find too difficult to start on our own. And this year’s Coronation Street was no exception with the death of Sinead from cervical cancer.

Emily Atack: What a tough role to have to tackle and a tough scene to get right – it has to be done so sensitively. And yeah, she [actor Katie McGlynn] did it beautifully.

Fleabag: Confessional scene

CM: Fleabag’s Hot Priest moment. There are very few moments on TV that become so iconic that you can refer to them by two words and everyone knows what they mean.

Rylan Clark-Neal: Phoebe Waller-Bridge is an absolute genius with that series. Again, one of the most spoken about series of recent times.

Game Of Thrones: Arya kills the Night King

CM: We spent the entire previous seasons wondering who it was that was gonna kill the Night King, and it was Arya, our little girl who we followed from the beginning. A perfect moment that satisfied the most discerning of fans.

Gavin & Stacey: Nessa proposes to Smithy

RCN: I got to host the Gavin & Stacey press event two months before it went on TV, where we watched it, and I had to keep the secret that Nessa proposes to Smithy for two months – and I managed to keep it.

Line Of Duty: John Corbett’s death

CM: Five seasons in and Line Of Duty’s writer Jed Mercurio still manages to find twists and turns that has the entire nation on the edge of its seat. This year was no exception. John Corbett, played by Stephen Graham, is murdered by a guy from season one! What?

EA: I think the main shock for everybody is that you don’t expect Stephen Graham to get bumped off in a drama, do you?

Love Island: Michael recouples after Casa Amor

EA: The moment that Michael decides to couple with Joanna rather than Amber in Casa Amor, it’s... I mean, Casa Amor... this is what it does to everybody.

RCN: I mean, if looks could kill, there would be dead bodies everywhere.
